+ DESCRIPTION
With the goals to restore a historic building along the Ridge Avenue Roxborough Thematic Historic District and construct a three-story multifamily building behind, the owner’s sought a balanced relationship between existing and new.
The restoration of the historic building includes removing a non-contributing front addition and replacing it with a new front porch. This allows the building to tieback back into the fabric of the Historic District and return to its original volume. Historic features such as windows, doors, and transoms will further contribute to the renewal of the structure. The new three-story multifamily building consists of fifteen residential units and looks to establish a shared architectural vocabulary with the historic building. This relationship being exemplified in the use of gabled rooflines and punched symmetrical window openings.
